Sponsored by DCR and the Friends of Robinson State Park. Most activities or walks take place at, or organize at the Trestle Pavilion, unless otherwise noted. The normal park fee of $5 per car will be charged at the gate. No charge for entry on foot or bike. Times are approximate and flexible. 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Ongoing Activities and Guided Walks at the Pavilion: Morning - Midday - Midafternoon “Big Tree” identification walks, led by arborist, Matt “Twig” Largess, appropriate for children. 10:00 a.m. 5-mile hike, led by Dave and Mary Conley, AMC Berkshire Chapter leaders. Hike various trails in Robinson State Park, leaving from the Pavilion. 10:00 a.m. Sharon Vasicek, Elementary School art teacher: Nature rubbings for children. 10:00 a.m. Gini Traub, DCR Environmental Education Coordinator: Station with hands on experience for Children…“Kid's CCC Camp”…..ongoing from 10:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. Barbara Farrington will conduct a Beginner's workshop on keying wildflowers using Alec Gillman of DCR, presentation on the history of the CCC in the park Ranger Pete Michaels: Rangering with Ranger Pete (for young people) 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Environmental Compliance Services (ECS) of Agawam will have informative handouts and field equipment commonly used to evaluate soil and groundwater quality. 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Burt Freedman of the Springfield ECOS program: Catching and examining life in our pond….ongoing from 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Gini Traub of DCR: Hike through many forest types focusing on the work and contributions of the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC). Hike to the Waterfall with a member of the Friends Group (depending on interest) Watch and help Nancy Bobskill (Agawam HS environmental teacher) and Rod Parlee (CT Sierra Club) do a Rapid Stream assessment for water purity on streams that run through the park. 3:00 p.m. Watch the Westfield River Watershed Association (WRWA)’s Canoe & Kayak Cruise arrive at Robinson from the Westfield River at the park’s canoe launch area. (Lifeguards will be on duty at the pond from 11 a.m.)
